Where are the Tisquizoque Windows Located?

The Tisquizoque Windows are located in the municipality of Florián, Santander, Colombia. The environment is mountainous and highly photogenic, with trails connecting viewpoints and a large cave with waterfalls.

How to Get to the Tisquizoque Windows

Getting there is part of the experience. Here are the most common routes and approximate times:

  • From Bogotá or Bucaramanga: Take a bus from the terminal to Barbosa and get off at the Barbosa terminal.

  • Barbosa → Florián: In Barbosa, take a campero or chiva to Florián. The journey takes about 1 hour and costs around $40,000 COP. Ask the driver to drop you off at the entrance of the Windows or in Florián.

  • Florián → Windows: If you have a lot of luggage, leave your things at the hotel and we recommend staying in Florián. From Florián, the walk takes about 30 minutes (depending on your pace).

  • Budget option: Some vehicles return to Barbosa and can take you to the entrance of the Windows for $3,000–$3,500 COP, avoiding the walk.

Note: Some travelers suggest going to Puente Nacional to reach the Windows due to its proximity, but Barbosa offers more options for hotels, commerce, and transportation to Florián. Additionally, campers or chivas leave from Barbosa to Florián, ensuring your spot.

History and Legend of the Tisquizoque Windows

The local legend says that the name comes from an indigenous man named Tisquizoque, who, according to tradition, preferred to jump from the mountains rather than be captured by the conquerors. Besides the history, the site is notable for its waterfalls:

  • First waterfall: 86 meters

  • Second waterfall: 110 meters

  • Third waterfall: 126 meters

The hike from the entrance is free and very scenic. We left our suitcase at the hotel and took a bus that dropped us off at the entrance for $3,000 COP.
