Cerro Azul is located in the municipality of San José del Guaviare, in the department of Guaviare, Colombia. It is approximately 100 kilometers from Villavicencio and 300 kilometers from Bogotá.
Before you continue reading… It is NOT mandatory to arrive with a guide from San Jose; if someone tells you that they won't assist you if you arrive alone, do not listen to them. Hire a guide if you want to go to places with someone from San Jose, but you can arrive directly on your own.
There are several ways to get to Cerro Azul. The most common options include bus, plane, or private car. The nearest major city is Bogotá, so we will start the route from there. Here’s how to get from this city:
By Bus: You can travel by bus from Bogotá; take a bus from La Macarena. The journey takes about 8 hours and costs $130,000 COP. I recommend traveling at night to arrive in the morning in San Jose.
By Plane: There are two companies that fly to San Jose del Guaviare: Clic and Satena. The flight lasts approximately 90 minutes and costs $400,000 COP to $700,000 COP. Prices may vary depending on the season.
In San Jose: Once in San Jose, rent a motorcycle for the day for $110,000 COP and navigate with Google Maps; you can also rent a taxi for the day for $350,000 COP.

Prices: To enter, it is mandatory to hire a guide at the entrance for $90,000 COP per group, and the entrance fee is $27,000 COP.
Hours: Every day, from 6 AM to 2:30 PM, with this being the last entry.

This place is managed by local residents, so you can be sure that you will be assigned a guide from the area. They will share stories about the place, the rock paintings, and their daily lives.
