From Bogotá: Approximately 3 hours by road. Buses are available from the Salitre Terminal or the North Terminal; the journey usually costs around $48,000 COP to the Villa de Leyva Terminal, just a few minutes from the historic center.
By car: Renting a vehicle gives you the freedom to explore the surroundings. I have occasionally used Localiza. Book in advance for peak dates.

Founded in 1572 by Captain Hernán Suárez de Villalobos, Villa de Leyva was a center for rest and trade during the colonial era. Today, it retains white colonial houses, wooden balconies, and cobblestone streets that make it unique.
It is also significant for paleontological discoveries: fossils of marine reptiles that attract researchers and visitors interested in natural history.
