Cocora Valley, located in the central Andes of Colombia, is a true natural treasure. This valley is famous for housing the wax palms, the tallest in the world and considered the national tree of Colombia.
Getting to Cocora Valley is easy and, at the same time, a whole experience. Here are the most common options:
From Salento: Jeeps (called "Willys") leave from the main square of Salento. The journey takes about 30 minutes for a cost of $12,000 COP.
From Armenia: Take a bus to Salento from the Transportation Terminal. The trip takes approximately one hour. $6,000 COP and from Salento, continue the route by Jeep.
For foreigners: Exchange some money for Colombian pesos at the airport or local exchange houses, as not all places accept cards.
Important tip: If you arrive from Bogotá, Medellín, or Cali, you can fly to El Edén Airport in Armenia.

Cocora Valley is not only famous for its natural beauty but also for its cultural and historical significance. The wax palms have been revered by indigenous communities for centuries and, in 1985, were declared the national tree of Colombia to protect them from indiscriminate logging.
This valley is an essential part of the Coffee Triangle, a region recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Cocora Valley is part of the Los Nevados National Natural Park, an extensive protected park known for its biodiversity, lakes, forests, and volcanoes. Here you will find a great diversity of flora and fauna, from pumas and hummingbirds to cows roaming freely in some areas.

Walk among the wax palms: There are two main routes: a short one (2-3 hours) and a longer one (5-6 hours) that passes by the Hummingbird House.

Clothing and footwear: Wear comfortable clothing, hiking boots, and a raincoat. The weather is unpredictable.
Sun protection: Although there is fog, the sun can be strong. Use sunscreen and a hat.

Respect nature: Do not litter and follow the park rules.
Traveling with children and pets: The valley is suitable for families. Bring an ergonomic backpack if traveling with small children and always keep pets on a leash.

Yes! The main routes are accessible, although the longer one can be a bit demanding for small children or elderly people.

What time of year is best to visit?
The valley is beautiful year-round, but the months from December to February usually have less rain.
