The Temple of the Sun is in Sogamoso, Boyacá, about 3 km from the city center. It is easy to visit from the terminal or the historic center.
The most common routes are:
From Bogotá: intermunicipal buses from the terminals (Sur, Salitre, or Norte). The journey takes approximately 3–4 hours and costs about $50,000 COP.
From Tunja: frequent buses, with an approximate travel time of 1 hour. Estimated cost: $20,000 COP.
In Sogamoso, you can take a taxi or urban bus to the Archaeological Museum. We recommend taking a taxi for convenience; the approximate fare is $8,000 COP.
It was a sacred place for the Muiscas, used in ceremonies of gratitude to the sun. Although the original was destroyed during the conquest, the reconstruction is based on archaeological findings and studies of Muisca culture.
The structure reproduces traditional techniques (wood and palm) and helps to understand Muisca beliefs and worldview.
