How to Get to the Rosario Islands (from Cartagena)

The most common and quickest way is by boat from Cartagena. Here are the key steps and costs:

  • By Boat - La Bodeguita Dock: In front of the Clock Tower in the historic center, you should buy your ticket at official ticket offices and avoid resellers. The trip takes approximately 45 minutes, and the boat costs $100,000–$120,000 COP per way, plus $25,000 COP for the dock usage tax.

  • If you’re looking for a more economical option, you can go by land.

    • Cartagena to Pasacaballos: Take the bus to Pasacaballos from the Historic Center. Ask for the closest stop; I’ve taken it from 2 locations: at Muebles Jamar one block from Castillo de San Felipe and near the monument of India Catalina. The fare is $4,100 COP, and the trip takes 45 minutes to 1 hour. Tell the driver to drop you off at the D1 where the motorcycles and cars go to Playa Blanca.

    • Pasacaballos to Barú Pueblo: Once in Pasacaballos, you can buy what you need at the D1 for your trip. There, take a private car, motorcycle taxi, or Tuk Tuk for $20,000 COP. Tell the driver to drop you off at the Barú dock.

    • Barú Dock to Rosario Islands: Once at the dock, buy your boat ticket to the Rosario Islands and indicate the hotel where you will be staying. It costs $15,000 COP. With this, you will reach the islands.

Tip for foreigners: Exchange money at official exchange houses in Cartagena and carry cash in small bills for expenses on the islands.
